When you can’t control what’s happening, challenge yourself to control the way you are responding to what’s happening. That’s where the power is.

The hedonic treadmill. Always chasing that next big thing, thinking it will bring long lasting happiness only to learn it’s short lived and not true happiness.
Exactly, Kell. I looked up the definition for hedonism and found the following:
Pursuit of or devotion to pleasure, especially to the pleasures of the senses.
n. The ethical doctrine holding that only what is pleasant or has pleasant consequences is intrinsically good.
n. The doctrine holding that behavior is motivated by the desire for pleasure and the avoidance of pain.
Powerful video. I had never heard of the hedonic treadmill The 3 takeaways were awesome and I am glad that I have gotten quite comfortable with looking within, gratitude and having no need to compare my journey to anyone else.
I can celebrate my victories and challenges while cheering on the success of others without needing to “one up” anyone.
So my top takeaway was to stay off the hedonic treadmill
That’s great Eileen!! Keep it up 😄
Great Video! I also liked the image for the quote today!
The main takeaway I got from the video is that happiness comes from the inside.
Our mind is shaped to think that chasing the next big thing will bring lasting happiness. This concept is called the Hedonic Treadmill. It is like a chain of repeated ambition that loops around. This means that no matter how successful you are, unless you find happiness from within yourself with the items and surroundings that you have, you will never truly be happy at the moment. You will just be dreaming of happiness that never will actually come.
So to summarize, you need to find happiness and the goodness of the situation you have. It may not only help your situation get better, but it will also allow you to enjoy life. Exercise and mental self-care help you enjoy life more. So stay on the treadmill, just not the hedonic one.
Nice takeaways Sidd!
Gratitude is a powerful tool. It brings me joy and reminds me that I have a community to celebrate with!
My big takeaway from the video is that lasting happiness doesn’t come from external things but from within. This notion reminded me of a Netflix video I watched more than once. It’s titled HAPPY and you can check it out.
Below is a URL with a synopsis of the documentary film available on Netflix, Microsoft and probably Amazon and Hulu.

My take away is lasting happiness does not come from external things-but from within. I had never heard of the hedonic treadmill either. It sounds a lot like keeping up with the Joneses.
Seek within! Every being lives every moment in pursuit of happiness and with an illusion that it’s outside. The moment one realizes that what they have been looking for is with them and within them… world becomes a better place.
Happiness can only come from within! That’s so important and is a great take away. You life is your own and your happiness depends on only you. Great message
Don’t compare yourself to others, rather look for happiness from within. And that the outside world can never deliver lasting happiness, only short term.
