Challenge
  1. Fail at something today by giving your best effort. Try to do better than you think you can currently do. Pick anything but care more about the quality of your effort than the success of your outcome. See what you can learn.
  2. What’s more scary, failure or success? Please tell me about it in the comments.

Failure to me is more scary. I have a child’s that’s watching my every move so I’m trying to lead by example. I don’t consider anything I do as failing. If I can’t achieve it the first time around I try again. That’s what I want my daughter to see; never give up. If I fail at life I’ll feel like I gave up on her. This is what drives/motivates me everyday to do/be better.

Failure is more scary to me. Not failure like I miss a shot or do poorly on a test. I mean failure like I do poorly in a class or I failed my team. The small failures are what lead to to success the big ones are what can drag you down.

This was a really good way of putting it! I didn’t think of this before but the small failures don’t scare me but the bigger, broader failures do.

Failure… because what accompanies failure is self doubt and inevitable total destruction (at least, that is what your mind tells you). Key is to get over they mental block… which is easier said that done.

I would say that failure is a bit more scary than success. The feeling that I get from failure is a negative one. However, I do like that failure teaches us all a lesson in some way. If we were to succeed all the time, we wouldn’t understand the lessons that normally come with failure.

success in a way. when you succeed more opportunities come and things get harder, so just because i don’t know what will come after i succeed can be a little frightening. i don’t know what will happen after i reach my top goal how will my life change. the thing is i don’t know how it will change so i just have to wait and see but i love the idea of succession. just the road after could be a little scary.

Hi Hayden! That’s a great point! A lot of people have this thought in their mind and then purposefully self-sabotage. That way they never have to find out what comes after success.

Failure although not an option is scarier. I find that depending on what I tried to accomplish, I may not have the strength or mental energy to tackle repeating the task until it is accomplished.

I think success is more scary. I think this because success usually comes with failure. I don’t find success itself scarier but getting to success and the process is scarier than failure. To succeed in something you still need to grow in and get better, you need to improve from the place you are. You don’t know how long it will take and your expectations, if not set correctly, will make it feel like you can’t do that thing instead of focusing on the task in hand.
All in all I think success is more scary than failure as to get to success, you don’t know the path ahead of you and even if you are slightly off, you may not reach you target.

Hi Sidd! Great point about the journey to success being so unpredictable that at times it can be scary.

What failure has taught in life me success cudn’t. So I know failure has come for a reason and I welcome it, I reflect on the process and I look for lessons in it.
But yes failure makes me uncomfortable not necessarily scares me.

Similar to what Sidd said, the journey to success can be scary because of its difficulty and unpredictability. I also want to emphasize Hayden’s point that what follows after success can be scary too.
Failure isn’t that scary because it is predictable and known. And once it happens, it happens. It is the only guaranteed outcome if you don’t want to go through the process to success.

I’d have to say failure is more scary because it’s the opposite of what I’m working for. Even though it can be a little intimidating, we often meet failure in the path toward success. In the end its a necessary evil that should be used to propel us towards accomplishing our goals.

Failure is more scary, but it is dependent on the scale of that failure. I think by practicing being okay with failing on a small level will allow you to have better habits on how to bounce back from bigger failures.

Failure, because it discourages me. Success comes with happiness because I have finished what I wanted to, though it is only a temporary goal.

I think success. Failure gives plenty of opportunities to learn, reflect, try again. Success can often breed complacency.

I think failure is more scary because most of the time you’re more focused on what you did wrong rather than how you can improve on it, and even though success isn’t benefiting you either, failure is just making you feel bad for yourself depending on the situation.
